Firefox gaining market share

Mozila Firefox has overtaken Internet Explorer 6 in maret share statistics for the first time in February 2009. Now it's pretty clear that Firefox is the most popular open source browser in Europe. On the other hand the global leader is still Internet Explorer 7 with a market share of 40%.

In accordance to StatCounter, Firefox 3 has overtaken Internet Explorer as well but only in Europe. Firefox had the highest share on last Sunday - 37.11%, while IE7 had 35.01%.

It's clear that if we count the share of IE6 and IE7 together Microsoft will still be ahead. Firefox did a great job and managed to get a global market share of 25%. Theshare of IE is still dropping. Just in the last month it dropped by 8%.

The introduction of Internet Explorer 8 was supposed to stop the drop but so far this is not the case and Microsoft had to face more bad publicity around the product then good one.
